My experience is that Confrontation with your Middle School teen does not make your life easier. The question is why do so many parents, myself included, fall into that destructive form of talking so frequently?

Is Anybody Listening out there?

I find that my temper can begin to boil in just a few seconds, when dealing with my teenager. But wait! Does that mean that I am a hot head and have to work on my own anger management? Absolutely not! It means that I have come to the last stage of the weekly weary process of trying to help structure my son’s time through negotiation so that it is wisely divided up between work and play. After all, I want a responsible boy as an active member of this family.

Distractions, Distractions and More Distractions.

The truth is that I can’t really get his attention for an undisturbed length of time so that he can focus on the discussion. First there is the computer game to switch off, then there is the I-pod to remove from the ear, then there is his side unfocussed look which is checking out the contents of the fridge, and did I mention the sound of the TV from his twin brother in the other room?

Frustration

I had imagined parenting to be easier than this. The most dramatic option available as a Mom is to explode. Surely that will get his attention? Ranting and raving with a long lecture is a great release for me so maybe there is some benefit for the family. I get to express my opinion and it is heard loud and clear. I finally have his attention. Do you get my drift?

Lighten Up Lady.

Then I remember good parenting advice I had enjoyed recently from a video clip that I wanted to share with you. By lightening up with your teenager, you will have a far profounder effect on your teen and will even be an excellent role model. Exploding really is the last resort and a pretty damaging one too. However, humor can hit the spot and get your point over far more effectively, and hey, I got his attention when we watched this clip together

Helpful suggestion

This is just one of the 52 helpful resources that made my Parenting Easier and I strongly recommend that you give it a try.

Hello, this is Caroline again and I was thinking that maybe I could share a bit more about our family.

Mixed Family

We have 4 children, both biological and adopted ranging from age 9-19 so we have been through the middle school experience (successfully) already. We also have another child on the way….oh! “Pregnant again at your age!” you might be thinking? Well no actually, this child is from a totally different source and some interesting tidbits will be revealed in a future blog!!

Boy Teens and Girl Teens sure are different

Like any family, we have had our parenting issues and have sought out parenting advice BUT personally, I am struck by the dramatic difference between parenting boys and girls during these teenage years. It is a whole new world and I have really discovered how to be a better parent by having both experiences.

Daughter

Our firstborn daughter had a very calm adolescence without turbulent upheavals and without dragging us parents into rebellious arguments. She communicated openly and we really were the closest of friends hanging out together and enjoying each other’s company. We thought we had Middle school parenting totally under control. Boy, were we wrong!

Twin Sons

Our Fraternal twin boys are totally opposite personalities yet they both assumed a united NON-COMMUNICATION stance. We were used to joyous discussion, now we were met with slurred speech, groans, grunts and passive expressions. Everything ground to a halt. Our own efforts were ineffective. We were stumped!

We found the solution to make our Parenting Easier.

Even though we were aiming just at improving our twin’s communication skills, we realized that we seriously needed a COMPLETE action plan to cover us during these teenage years. Not only did we need to improve their basic communication skills but to protect them in all subjects such as correct behavior with peers, proper use of internet and TV, dealing with drugs and alcohol and that is just for starters. Also we wanted them to really understand our family limits, rules and consequences for inappropriate behavior.

Where could we turn for help? Reading endless volumes of parenting manuals was time consuming and didn’t lead to clear actions. Going out to parenting courses was logistically problematic. We turned to the internet and sorted through endless advice until we found the true few experts that could lead us to excellent results in 5 minutes a week.

Check out our results to help you get easier parenting at

These 52 resources really made a big difference to our family.

Try it for FREE

We would love to know how it has helped you.

They have become non-communicative, absorbed in computer activities, moody, impatient with other siblings and unenthusiastic about doing family activities.

Surely something must exist to make parenting easier or it seems like these are going to turn into some pretty unpleasant years. Is there anyone out there in cyber space to help me become a better parent?
